Oxpens River Bridge and path works

Enabling infrastructure

£10m – delivery in 2025

Funded

The project

This new bridge is proposed between Oxpens and Grandpont Nature Park. It is designed as a shared space for both pedestrian and cyclists. The design has been selected to balance the most direct available route, minimise the  impact across the meadows, to limit tree loss and reduce embodied carbon. The bridge will become an important placemaking feature and has been designed to create a positive experience as users pass amongst the trees and cross the river.

The opportunity

It will connect Osney Mead with Oxpens, the city centre and the train station. This will strengthen the innovation cluster and give better access to enjoy the Grandpont Nature Park and Thames, with quicker and improved cycle routes.

Progress

The planning application was submitted on 23rd October 2023  Ref. No: 23/02506/CT3 and resolved to be approved on the 18th April 2024. Oxfordshire County Council are now undertaking consultation for approval to bridge the waterway. Further details will be available on the Oxfordshire County Council “Lets Talk” page
