The project

An annual charge to businesses for staff parking spaces at their premises. Businesses with 11 or more staff parking spaces would pay the Workplace Parking Levy.

The opportunity

To improve transport in the city, including bus services and walking and cycling infrastructure. A levy would generate funds beyond the cost of implementing and running the scheme. It is one of a number of tools designed to reduce air pollution and peak-time congestion in the city, and make active and shared transport the natural first choice.

Progress

Oxfordshire County Council intends to publish more detailed plans for public consultation in 2024. These plans will be informed by discussion with employers in the city. A Workplace Parking Levy requires approval from the UK government (the Department for Transport).
