£171m – delivery from 2026
The project
A new track, platform, ticket hall and wider bridge over Botley Road.
The opportunity
Allowing an additional three passenger trains each hour and twelve more long-distance freight trains each day connecting the UK regions. The additional capacity assists East West Rail in introducing trains to/from Milton Keynes and the re-opening of the Cowley Branch Line to passengers.
Progress
Network Rail has secured £161m from the DfT for this element, complemented by £10m of local funding. Construction work is underway to create the new platform and rail infrastructure, ready for the introduction of East West Rail services. Alongside the Botley Road reopening, there will be highway improvements to aid cycling, walking and buses, in Summer 2026. A new programme for the Western entrance is anticipated.
