A number of schemes delivered.
The project
A number of different schemes that enhance the usability and attractiveness of quiet active travel (pedestrian and cycle) routes in the Osney Mead area. Measures delivered include:
- A new wide segregated off-road pedestrian and cycle path along Ferry Hinksey Road and Osney Mead
- A new cycle/ pedestrian route connecting Osney Mead to the Thames towpath
- A replacement wider bridge over the Bulstake Stream on Willow Walk together with path resurfacing and path widening
- Path enhancements across King Georges Field between Willow Walk and Earl Street.
The opportunity
Measures will help to connect existing and planned future major city centre sites including Westgate, Oxpens and Osney Mead with some of the city’s residential areas via attractive pedestrian and cycle routes. These routes will provide largely traffic-free connections to and from locations in Oxford city centre.
Progress
Delivery of pedestrian and cycle works through Osney Mead were completed in 2022. Works to improve routes along Willow Walk and across King Georges Field were completed during 2023.
Further improvements could be developed and funded alongside the regeneration of Osney Mead. Learn more about the River Thames bridge and path works.
